For candle makers

Candles, from recipe to sold jar.

The whole pour in one place: a recipe in percentages or grams, every batch traced by lot, the IFRA fragrance load checked, the CLP hazard cues and allergens surfaced for your label, and the cost per candle known before you price it.

01 · Recipe

Your pour in percentages or grams. The math holds either way.

Work a wax and fragrance blend as percentages of the pour, or as actual weights — Alchemis keeps both consistent. Change the fragrance load and the wax redistributes; lock the ones you don't want touched. Scale a 500 g test up to a 4 kg run and every weight comes with it.

  • Soy wax88% · 880 g
  • Fragrance oil9% · 90 g
  • Coconut wax3% · 30 g
02 · Batches

Every pour traceable, every candle accounted for.

Each pour gets a lot number, a make date, production steps with heat and pour temperatures, photos from along the way, and an activity log. Assign fragrance to the right step, mark it complete and split it into finished candles — each carrying its lot, so you always know what went into which.

03 · Fragrance limits

IFRA Category 12, checked as you pour.

Candles and home fragrance sit under IFRA Category 12. As you build the recipe, Alchemis checks your fragrance load against the Cat 12 limits — from the constituents you enter or the supplier IFRA certificate. When something's above the limit, it states the actual number and proposes a fix — in amber, never as a violation.

Best-effort guidance to catch issues early, never a certification. Always defer to your own supplier documentation and a qualified assessor.

Amber tin · fragrance checks
  • Fragrance load9.0%
  • IFRA Cat 12 (a constituent)above limit
  • EU fragrance allergens2 detected
"This constituent is above its Category 12 limit at your load. Reduce the fragrance %, or reformulate." Amber, with the number and a fix — advisory, not a certification.
04 · CLP label cues

CLP hazard cues for the label. Advisory, never a certification.

A scented candle is a mixture under CLP, not a cosmetic. Alchemis builds the label hazard block for you — the GHS07 pictogram, the signal word "Warning," H317 ("May cause an allergic skin reaction") and the EUH208 fragrance-allergen line — chosen by product category, with PCN/UFI and SDS notes as guidance. It's a starting point to work from, not a classification.

These are advisory cues, never a CLP classification or certification. The full classification, the safety data sheet, and the poison-centre notification (PCN with a UFI) remain your responsibility.

  • Signal wordWarning
  • Hazard statementH317
  • Allergen lineEUH208
"Warning. H317 — May cause an allergic skin reaction. Contains Linalool, Limonene. UFI and PCN required." Cues to place and verify, not a finished classification.
05 · Allergen detection

The fragrance allergens to declare, detected for you.

From your fragrance composition or the supplier IFRA certificate, Alchemis detects the EU fragrance allergens present and lists them for the EUH208 statement — the "contains …" line a candle label needs. You enter the composition or the cert; nothing is invented, and the final wording stays yours to confirm.

Contains Linalool, Limonene, Citronellol. May produce an allergic reaction.
* detected from the fragrance composition / supplier IFRA cert — confirm against your own documentation.
06 · Cost & price

Cost per candle, then a price you choose.

Wax, wick, fragrance, vessel, packaging — every cost rolls up from your supplier prices into a per-candle COGS. Set a margin or a markup and Alchemis suggests the selling price, so you price from the real number instead of a guess.

  • Wax & fragrance€1.05
  • Vessel, wick & packaging€1.40
  • Per-candle COGS€2.45

Questions

The honest answers

Does Alchemis make my candles CLP-compliant?
No — it generates the advisory hazard cues (the GHS07 pictogram, the signal word, H317 and the EUH208 line) and flags the allergens to declare. It does not certify anything. A full CLP classification, the SDS, and the poison-centre notification (PCN/UFI) remain your duty.
Are candles cosmetics? Do I need a CPNP notification?
No — scented candles and reed diffusers are chemical mixtures under CLP, not cosmetics, so a cosmetic PIF and CPNP notification don't apply. The relevant duty is a CLP hazard classification and, where required, a PCN with a UFI. Alchemis treats candles as mixtures, not cosmetics, and gives you the label cues to work from — advisory, never a certification.
Does Alchemis check IFRA fragrance limits for candles?
Yes. Candles and home fragrance sit under IFRA Category 12. Alchemis checks your fragrance load against the Cat 12 limits as you formulate, with the actual limit and a suggested fix. Advisory, not a certification. Try the fragrance checker →
Can Alchemis detect the fragrance allergens I need to declare?
Yes. From your fragrance composition or the supplier IFRA certificate, Alchemis detects the EU fragrance allergens present and lists them for the EUH208 statement. You enter the composition or the cert; nothing is fabricated, and the final wording stays yours to confirm.
Can I track batches, lots and cost per candle?
Yes. Every pour gets a lot number, a make date, photos and an activity log, then splits into finished candles that each carry the lot. Wax, wick, fragrance, vessel and packaging roll up into a per-candle cost, and you set the margin or markup for the suggested price.
Does Alchemis do burn-time or EN 15493 safety testing?
No. Physical safety and performance testing — burn time, stability, EN 15493 / EN 15426 — is on the roadmap, not shipped. Today Alchemis covers the CLP label cues, the IFRA Category 12 checks and allergen detection, all advisory. The final safety assessment is yours.
